However, there something about the dog that made them change their minds, so they started to treat him.

They applied a type of powder to kill the maggots still eating what’s left in his face, and then applied gauze. After all, maggots are eradicated, they had to sedate Kalu to proceed with the next step. They started to clean the big wound by taking out each and every maggot there is.

A large part of Kalu’s skull can be seen clearly, and it appeared that he has lost his eyes too. After cleansing the wound, they wrapped his face up with gauze and tucked him to bed to let him rest.

Three long days after his rescue, he was finally able to eat. A woman had to direct his head to where she was holding a plate of food served for him so he could eat. She also had to hand-feed him as he could not see his food.

On the fifth day, the rescuers were surprised to find his left eye appeared near the area of his wound! They kept taking care of him – cleaned his wound, fed him, made him drink, gave him baths and make sure his wound was healing properly and not exposed.

Just after three months, Kalu made a shocking recovery – his face grew back! He only has a white scar in the running in the middle and right side of his face by now. He is happy, active and very sweet. He loves being pet, rubbed and clearly enjoys all the attention he is receiving.

The dog whom people once thought was only waiting for the death angel to arrive, came out as a perfectly healthy and happy dog, all thanks to his rescuers. No one knew he would survive, and it was no doubt most have thought that euthanasia would have been the best decision for poo Kalu. But then again, he defied all odds when he was able to change their decision, heal and recover in a very short span of time.
