Pit Bull owner was walking his dog without a leash and that is the main reason that Labrador owners think what has caused the situation. A lot of questions were raised if the leash could have been a real deterrent and I think it probably would have helped and could have prevented the tragedy that has occurred. Yes they should be on a lesh!!!! I hope the owner of the pit bull is paying the vet bill. I do not think pit bulls are bad dogs, it’s the humans that teach them to be.
this is totally the reason you use leash if you can’t verbally control your dog you at least have a leash Never count on verbal comands, you never know what will set your pet off, why should another animal suffer because your too lazzy to hold a leash !
The owner of the pit bull must pay the vet bill!! The poor choc. lab. was very badly injured!! I hope he gets well very soon!! Poor sweet angel !! Dogs going for a walk must wear a leash!!

Not the leash was not going to help. The dog need to be trained and always in a leash, I have my dogs in a leash at all the time, but when they see other dog they want to play and many time turn into a strugle to keep them, because the other dog is trained not to interact with dogs and cause sometims anger. If your dog is a puppy or young the best is keep training them and take them to the park to use their energies. I have an old and a two years, the younger is always ready to play; at the park not problem in a leash is a different issue.

yes a leash would have help, no dog should be walked with out one. I hope that gugs is buying the bill. I have had pit bull we all ways walked on leash. It’s not the dog it’s the owner. all dog are good dog.
Yes all dog should be on leash when out for a walk no exceptions. Wither big dogs or small.
I love pittbulls but they MUST ALWAYS have a leash!! IN fact so such all dogs!! WE have 2 dogs and a big back yard with a high fence! these are small dogs!! A beagle and a smart border collie!!
Definitely should have leashed the pit bull! A leash strong enough and probably attached to a sturdy and well fitted halter.

Dogs should always be on a leash if being walked in public. I have three labs and I don’t think they would ever attach another dog but I still always leash them just in case. You can’t take chances, you don’t know what could set your dog off. I would be devistated if my dog bit another dog or person. Leash is a must, and in many cases it’s the law
yes the leash would have helped — the pit bull wner did not have his dog under control and he should most adsuredly pay the vet bills — gld to know the Lab will recover but will he be the same again ??
All dogs should be walked on a leash. Every area that I know of has a restriction when one walks their dog and the ordinance states that all dogs should be on a leash. Technically this dog is responsibly for the damage caused to the chocolate lab in addition this dog was trespassing. The problem originates with the fact that the owner did not have full control of his dog no matter whether on/off a leash. What I see here is an irresponsible owner and that the dog may be trained as an “attack” dog. I also wonder if this owner has an illegal dog ring going on.
The attack dog owner should be responsible 100% for the medical expensive to have this dog back to heal. In addition the chocolate lab’s owner can sue the other owner for damages, mental anguish that the dog caused, etc. The chocolate lab’s owner has a damn good case against the attacker’s owner.
Usually the dog that did the attacking is placed in quarantine and must be checked for many issues. Since the dog actually drew blood, there are many other legal issues regarding the dog. Also the human society gets involved and the dog must be tested for proper behavior and see if the dog can be released back into society because the dog can attack a human and do more serious damage.
Beleive that the owners should really be investigated for everything that occurred. Something isn’t right and one cannot blame the breed. Pit bulls are very loving, friendly dogs. For a Pit bull to do this, the dog was trained to attack. I rest my case. So sorry for the chocolate lab and hope he recuperates but also sorry for the Pitt becuase it isn’t the dog but the owner!

All dogs should be on leash just to keep them safe and to avoid anything from taking place especially when there are other dogs whom they do not know in area.

Yes the pit should have been on a leash if the owner could not control his dog that well. I have friends with well trained and lovable pits that think everyone should love them to.
So sorry for your poor dogs attack. My Yorkie was also attacked by a pit bull 2 years ago, the owner had him on a leash, but couldn’t control him and he got away. My dog was bit, but not badly as I punched the pit bull in the face he let go and the owner grabbed him. You should sue the owner, so they will think twoice abut walking the pit without a leash, I didn’t know who owned the pit bull that attacked us, I had never seen the dog or owner in our neighborhood before. I would have called animal control if I had known and sued for Vet charges. You should do that for your Vet charges and time lost being with your dog.
Every Dog Owners owes themselves but, most to their Dog to take obidience training; it will make it enormous easy on their relationchip. Dog like Master, both know how to handle one another!
In my opinion you should never have a dog outside a confined space, like your house or fenced yard, without a leash.

In our state NC–there is a Leash Law and Yes–I feel the owner should have been able to restrain his own dog. Leashes are there to Protect YOUR dog–and the dog of others. Everyone benefits from that Law!!
Leash laws apply! Don’t loose control of your dog. Owners should allow dogs off leash only on their own property unless serious business, such as working dogs, is underway!
If off your property always on a leash. You are liable for what your dog does to others, people or animals, no matter what. If your dog can’t be controled needs to never leave your yard.
