When you have a pneumothorax, you’ll experience shortness of breath and pain, to name a few. It is obvious that the poor dog is in so much pain. By the way he looks at you, his puppy eyes and his panting is more than enough reasons to say he badly needs help, and fast.

They prepared him for a surgery by putting him to sleep and inserting IV therapy. They stitched the hole found in his thorax. They removed the air around the dog’s lung by inserting a small tube and aspirating the air using a syringe.Next, they had to clean his wound thoroughly as it was very dirty. The doctor had to use a drain to help prevent future infections. They then proceeded in suturing the wound to close it up. They wrapped it up and waited for Tony, the dog’s name, to recover. After an emergency surgery, many weeks of care, and love provided by his rescuers, Tony succeeded and survived his near-death experience.

Meet Tony, the stray dog who survived a collapsed lung! One look at this brown dog and you won’t be able to easily tell he almost died a few months ago. He is a handsome boy who’s very active. He loves to play catch and tug of war. The only indication he went through the surgery was from the stitches made when his rescuers tried to save him.

It’s not clear how he got his massive wound, but I felt so relieved after people came to rescue him. To say I was happy when I learned he survived and they were able to save Tony was an understatement. Even though I have never met this dog, I felt pain by simply seeing him in such a horrible state. I cannot imagine any of my dogs being in the same situation as Tony. Just the thought of it makes me want to tear up, what more if it did happen to a dog I know, much more if it was mine?
