Let’s Rewind 20 Years Back and Try to See How it  Might Have Been…

A little yellow labrador retriever puppy was brought home and everyone was very joyful, everyone wanted to hold him and pet him and play with him, and that little puppy let’s call him – Blaby, licked everyone’s face and was very happy. Then one day 20 years later something happened, we don’t know what could have happened. Knowing dog owner’s attachment to his pet, something drastic should have happened for the owner or owner’s family to give up their dearly loved family member. Maybe, unfortunate, owner’s death. Maybe grave illness. We think that attachment after 20 years of life together is so great that there is absolutely nothing that can separate an owner from his dog, except force majeure circumstances – such as death.


Or maybe the owner didn’t have anybody in this world except this sweet dog and when the owner passed away there was nobody around to step up and give love and care to this wonderful animal. Whatever it is we can only speculate at this moment.
We will try to find out more information if we could and bring it to you on exactly what has happened.

The photo of an elderly Labrador retriever, reported to be 20 years of age, being surrendered this week to an animal control in San Antonio, Texas, shattered hearts and inspired frantic networking efforts. Fortunately, the dog was out of the facility in short order thanks to the many strangers who were working on his behalf.

    Some people haven’t any hearts and should not be allowed to have pets of any kind. I’m happy somebody saved this loving loyle dog. Dogs and cats ect. are for life don’t be a heartless P.O.S.

    I RESCUED TWO CATS WHEN THEIR HU-MOM PASSED AWAY. CALVIN AN ORANGE TABBY WAS 20 YRS. LASTED ABOUT 5 MONTHS THEN NEEDED HELP TO CROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE AS HIS SYSTEM WAS SHUTTING DOWN, I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE IT DONE FOR FREE AS MY DOG WAS A BLOOD DONOR. SHE’S NOW RETIRED. THE OTHER CAT, MISSY WAS 18 UPON RESCUE AND LASTED 2 MORE YRS AFTER CALVIN. I AGAIN WAS BLESSED WITH THE COST TO HELP HER ACROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE. ONE OF MY CHURCH FRIENDS VOLUNTEERED RIDE TO VET, PAYMENT AND A RIDE HOME. HER SITUSTION WAS SIMILAR WITH HER SYSTEM BUT I’D LEARNED FROM CALVIN AND FED HER CRTITCAL CARE CAT FOOD AND NUTRITION ADDITIVES AND MADE IT IN THE BLENDER AND FORCE FED HER 3 TIMES A DAY FOR A GOOD THREE MONTHS. I’M SURE I EXTENDED HER LIFE SOME. BUT WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO, I LET HER GO. SHE MISSED HER 22ND BIRTHDAY BY 6 WEEKS. GOD IS GOOD THAT WE WERE BLESSED WITH EACH OTHER FOR THE SHORT TIME WE HAD. IF I COULD, I’D DO IT AGAIN.

    One could only hope that someone who had kept him for 20 years would not simplyabandon, so let’s hope it was not just he’s old and no longer any fun. So thankful for rescues that belive his life mattered and saved him from the inevitable at a shelter.

    Yes, if and owner passes after having a dog for 20 years then a family member or a friend should step up to the plate and take the dog into their home. We have and 8 year old Yellow Lab with medical issues and though expensive we do our best to take care of our girl. Thank you to the rescue.

    MY LAB (ACE) WAS 17 WHEN I FINALLY HAD TO LET THE DR SEND HIM HOME. I HAD HELPED HIM AROUND, WITH A LOG CARRIER, BY HOLDING THE HANDLES AND LETTING HIM WALK, HIS HIND LEGS WOULD NOT WORK. I THINK OF HIM EVERY DAY, ALONG WITH FIVE OTHER FUR BABIES THAT I HAVE HAD AS COMPANIONS OVER THE YEARS. CURRENTLY, SASSY AND I HAVE BEEN TOGETHER SINCE SHE WAS 6 MOS. SHE IS DUE TO BE 16 IN JUNE. I DO NOT LEAVE HER FOR TRIPS, JUST USUALLY TRIPS SHOPPING ETC. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE CAN JUST SEND THEIR FUR BABY OFF AFTER EITHER A SHORT TIME, WITH THEM, OR FURTHER MORE SEVERAL YEARS.     My sister adopted a senior dog. She believes they should have good lives after they reach old age. Both my dogs and my cat are rescued from abusive homes. My pit bull was ready to be put down because of PTSD from a home invasion that made her agressive because she was beaten badly. I told the people I wanted her no matter what. Now, she has passed her kennel test and is no longer deemed agressive. My lab mix was abused as a puppy. She would be put in 10 gallon paint buckets with water in them and they would put the lid on it. I stole her from their yard and reported them for abuse. I don’t like cats, but my cat Dusty is also a rescue from an abusive home. She has food and a warm place to live and that is what matters. Animals share this planet with us. They are not inferior, they are creatures with feelings. They understand loneliness and they understand pain. Take care of animals because they deserve love.

    How horrible to reach the age of 20 and then be surrender to animal control but thanks for getting this beautiful senior out of the shelter to enjoy how much time you have left and I hope that the rest of your days are filled with greatness you sure deserve it

    First of all .Thank you God for finding a “home” for this precious and much loved boy….A dog doesn;t ‘last’ to 20 if they are not MUCH LOVED AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF…
    And also Thank you God for making this dogs’ retirement meaningful.
    all lives matter regardless of age. It is selfishness that makes one chose …..understandably so…..one chooses a pup in the hopes of MANY MANY TEARS OF COMPANIONSHIP…..HOWEVER we are not promised tomorrow .Perhaps in future, people will choose for more, better or other reasons…
    I HAVE a Labrador retriever service dog and another large companion/exercise dog for my retriever because i can not provide all the execise she needs and I am sure she gets bored with me from time to time..She has her own bedroom for when she just wants to relax..for a few minutes.
    If I die suddenly in my sleep or otherwise GOD only knows where these babies will go,in spite of my plans.
    Family / friends and people in general do cruel and stupid things once you are not around.Some of my greatest treasures were beloved items to one who passed or fell on diffidult circumstances and their items tossed aside..My 102 year old neighbor is my best and most cherished friend.
