RSPCA called in a vet while they were in the property, and even the vet was shocked by the chaos inside. The 82 Chihuahuas can be considered feral in a way. They are afraid of social encounters are they have never been walked or taken outside. They kept on barking and snapping at the RSPCA Officers.

At first, they had no idea how many dogs there were. They kept appearing on every corner, and some are hiding and extremely frightened of the newcomers. They move things around the house and they’ll find eyes staring right back at them.

82 Chihuahuas were living in a very filthy house with no exercise, no social interaction other than that of their owners. The vet claimed the property was indeed not suitable for dogs that many, and they had to take them somewhere safe.

The dogs were in no better condition than the home they were found. Almost all have matted furs, have ticks, fleas and one even had burns due to an accident. While the RSPCA said it was a classic case of dog hoarding, their owners loved all 82 Chihuahuas dearly. However, that did not change the fact that the negligence of their owner led to an extreme number of dogs.

The RSPCA came to rescue the dogs. They were treated for their ticks and fleas and taken cared of by a shelter. One had to be put down because of serious medical conditions, but all remained healthy. Meanwhile, the husband received help from the RSPCA to renovate his home and even gave him four of the Chihuahuas back.

As for the remaining dogs, volunteers came to help. The Chihuahuas were house trained and they learned behave as friendly as possible. We are talking about dogs who are not trained properly and were kept inside the home, so it was a long process. Thankfully, all were adopted and now live in the forever homes.

As much as we love our pets, it is our responsibility as owners to keep them healthy, happy and safe.  As a responsible owner, we should make sure our pets are spayed and neutered. Making sure they eat a healthy and balanced diet, exercises and of course feel loved are not our only responsibilities. Also, it is not advisable to let them mate in their first season.

Bitches (female dogs) should all be spayed as it offers numerous benefits. For one, you can prevent pregnancy and it helps prevent womb problems. Spayed females generally live longer than those that were not spayed. Also, the rate of bitches having cancer is lower when spayed.

Having many dogs is a gift and a joy to have, but breeding is not advisable. If you want a dog and wants to be a dog owner, we should learn how to be responsible decision-makers. A dog’s life is precious and we should only treat them with love, care, and utmost respect.
